OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY FOR ALL AGES
Occupational Therapy for Children
Occupational therapy (OT) in our practice supports children in developing the functional skills they need to participate successfully in everyday life. Many of the children we serve are neurodivergent—including those with autism, ADHD, sensory processing differences, or other developmental variations—and may experience challenges with sensory processing, motor coordination, attention, and daily routines at home or school.
Rather than focusing simply on behavior, occupational therapy works to understand what may be happening beneath the surface. Our occupational therapist helps children identify their internal body signals and use sensory strategies to stay calm and focused during daily tasks. When behaviors become challenging, the goal is not just to manage them, but to better understand them. OT practitioners work to uncover the underlying sensory triggers behind challenging behaviors, providing families with practical tools for co-regulation and daily support.
Occupational therapy sessions use purposeful play and therapeutic activities to help children practice responding to stress with confidence and resilience. Through engaging, developmentally appropriate experiences, children build foundational skills in areas such as sensory regulation, motor planning, executive functioning, and independence with everyday activities.
Within our practice, occupational therapy works alongside play therapy in a collaborative and complementary way. While supporting children’s emotional expression, relational growth, and inner healing through the therapeutic power of play, occupational therapy focuses on the sensory, physical, and functional foundations that help children participate more comfortably in their environments.
Together, these approaches support the entire family system—helping children feel understood, regulated, and confident, while giving parents the clarity, strategies, and confidence they need to support their child’s development at home and beyond.
